This Bloody Sacrifice is the critical point of the World-Ceremony of the Proclamation of Horus, the Crowned and conquering Child, as Lord of the Aeon. 10) This whole matter is prophesied in the Book of the Law itself; let the student take note, and enter the ranks of the Host of the Sun. Barabbas. A noted robber in Christ's time, who was imprisoned and awaiting death for the crimes of sedition and murder. It was a custom of the Roman government, for the sake of conciliating the Jews, to release one Jewish prisoner, whom they might choose, at the yearly Passover.
Barabbas Summary. The story opens with Barabbas at the edge of those who gathered to be with Jesus as he was crucified. Barabbas was himself condemned to die but because of the Passover, the people were allowed to set someone free. Given the choice between Barabbas and Jesus, the people allowed Barabbas to go free. I would post the relevant passages, but they are too long to post. They are Matthew , Mark , Luke , and John I heard Richard Carrier argue that the story of Barabbas is fabricated and based on the ritual in the Mosaic Law where one lamb was killed as a sacrifice and another was let into the wilderness, found in Leviticus

The novel is built on antithesis: Jesus dies first among the three crucified – Barabbas dies last. Jesus dies among several of his friends – Barabbas dies alone. Jesus talks to God – Barabbas talks to the darkness.
The novel starts with Jesus' crucifixion and ends. Barabbas, in the New Testament, a prisoner mentioned in all four Gospels who was chosen by the crowd, over Jesus Christ, to be released by Pontius Pilate in a customary pardon before the feast of Passover.
Learn more about this biblical figure and his historical significance. Pilate released Barabbas and handed over Jesus to be scourged and crucified (verse 25). In some manuscripts of Matthew –17, Barabbas is referred to as “Jesus Barabbas” (meaning “Jesus, son of Abba [Father]”).
If Barabbas was also called “Jesus,” that would make Pilate’s offer to the crowd even more spiritually loaded. The Cross of Sacrifice is a Commonwealth war memorial designed in by Sir Reginald Blomfield for the Imperial War Graves Commission (now the Commonwealth War Graves Commission). It is present in Commonwealth war cemeteries containing 40 or more graves.
Its shape is an elongated Latin cross with proportions more typical of the Celtic cross, with the shaft and crossarm octagonal in section. Barabbas then heads to Jerusalem where he meets the Hare-Lipped Woman, a witness to Jesus' resurrection who will later be stoned for sharing her Christianity. After her death, Barabbas carries her lifeless body many miles to entomb her in a grave with her stillborn child.
As it happens, the woman had once taken care of Barabbas when he was injured. Barabbas and the Scapegoat (Day of Atonement and the Sacrifice of Jesus) A “type” in the Bible is picture in the Old Testament that foreshadows a fulfillment in the New Testament. THE TYPE: Two Goats The Day of Atonement (Leviticus ), also known as Yom Kippur, was a day when the sins of Israel were covered for one year.
Application for older students: The crowd yelled out, “Barabbas. Set Barabbas free. Kill Jesus instead.” I can easily imagine my own name in place of Barabbas. Because I am a sinner, I deserved to be punished.
My sin earned death for me (Romans ). But Jesus took my place. It’s as if, all those years ago, the crowd was shouting, “_____. Barabbas had been charged with the crime of treason against Rome-the same crime for which Jesus was also convicted.
The penalty was death by crucifixion. However, according to Christian sources, there was a prevailing Passover custom in Jerusalem that allowed or required Pilate to commute one prisoner's death sentence by popular acclaim.

Possible writing in margins, possible underlining and End date: At any rate, Barabbas’ vision of the kingdom of God was one that involved working at the point of a sword.
Indeed, the revolutionary slogan of the zealots was “no king but God,” and if Jesus Barabbas had heard of Jesus of Nazareth, he would have heard his preaching on the kingdom of God as good news. Jesus also preached, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” and “Those who live by the sword, die by the sword,” and the story of the Good Samaritan is nearly blasphemy as far as the Zealot is concerned.
The juxtaposition goes even further. Barabbas’ name is the clue. His name is Barabbas. Barabbas, was a criminal, responsible for insurgence, murder and robbery.
He was a murderer. That’s how Peter calls him in Acts The penalty for his actions was death. The name Barabbas is composed by “Bar” that means son and “abass” that means father.
He was “son of a father” i.e. a son of somebody. Directed by Richard Fleischer. With Anthony Quinn, Silvana Mangano, Arthur Kennedy, Katy Jurado.
Barabbas, the criminal that Pontius Pilate induced the populace to vote to set free, so that Christ could be crucified, is haunted by the image of Jesus for the rest of his life.
